Thanks for the info! I will try that Orthene. Should I cut the "white" leaves off before spraying or should I leave them on? Also, where do you buy the Orthene? Does Home Depot have it? Thanks!

: Anybody HELP! Most of my many sagos
: are covered in white, like snow! I
: assume this would be the feared
: asian scale!? I have treated them in
: spring with the "Garden
: Advantage" which I used as a
: systemic on the ground but obviously
: didn't help. I live in Florida. Can
: anyone suggest what to do or another
: product or maybe I did not apply
: enough of the "Garden
: Advantage"? It states to do it
: only once a year!? Please help me
: save my cycads, I have many of them
: and they are large. Thanks, Maxie

: If you remember in my article, it
: says it lasts 5 months at the most.
: In sandy soil, it lasts less than
: that. Let me guess, it started
: getting real bad about July or so?
: What I do is spray it all over the
: foliage and use as a drench. I do
: that every 4 months. Now you have
: more of an emergency. I really don't
: like telling people to use nasty
: chemicals, but you may want to spray
: and drench with Orthene. It is a
: systemic and you don't want it
: getting on you at all, but it will
: knock that stuff off in either 1 or
: two applications, one, 2 weeks after
: the first application. It doesn't
: last as long as the Imidicloprid,
: but it does work well. The key is
: that you do need to use it more
: often and it concentrates in the new
: leaves, so it helps to fertilize the
: plant at the same time you treat it
: so new leaves will be produced that
: will be filled with the chemical and
: in the mean time, the ones on the
: leaves will die from the direct
: application of the spray.
