That all depends on what you want to do with these. I think that cycads grow better with longer roots so I would not even start my plants in a 4 inch square pot, unless you are going to sell them as small plants. If you want to go with something short, then I have been using "Better Plastics" 5 inch deep liner pots that are about 2 1/4 inches wide and that way you can grow way more plants in the same amount of space. If you want to grow these out to be in 3s or 7s someday, like I do, I plant my seeds in community 3 gallon pots, which are 10 inches deep. I get about 25 plants per pot and they all get a 10 inch root system. But anyway, just for an idea on your question, the root will hit the bottom of your pots in about a month after they sprout so you have to decide if you want your roots curving around in a circle, or if you want them to grow deep and large (which helps store more starch to help give yopung plants more vigor)
