It is hard to say what your situation is without looking at the plant, but I bought in some seedlings that I know are arenarius, and they had the same very thin leaflets. The stems are now 3 inches and they have a 3 foot spread and they are still coming out just as thin. The leaflet widths can vary on this plant, so you may just have an atypical plant that doesn't conform to what we like to see in an arenarius plant.
