This is normal. Most of the people I have known who were growing these had green leaves for the first couple of years. People in California were having problems keeping these in pots where some of the people who put them in the ground did better with them. Being in Florida, it is just not worth it any more to grow cycas species ( I do make an exception for micholitzii types though) so I have not tried these myself.
