My Encephalartos Ferox put out a new flush of leaves about 3 weeks ago. Now on the side of the caudex between the new flush and the old leaves there is a round spot and the center of this spot has opened a bit and I can see red inside. Is it normal to get a cone that is not in the top center of the caudex but on the side between rows of leaves? Is it starting a second head/crown? and if so will this also flush after it cones?
