I've always wondered the same, as I've used it around the trunks with no problem. I took a smaller one (leaves about 1 1/2 feet in dia)and sprayed it heavily with Roundup. To my surprise, it didn't phase it. I'm not advocating for everyone to go out and spray your sagos with Roundup though, I'm just relating my firsthand experience...Z

: What do you think about using
: products
: like RoundUp to kill weeds next to
: Cycads in containers or in the
: ground?I'm loosing the battle trying
: to pull weeds by hand.
:
: I have used roundup right next to
: sagos with clear trunk in landscapes
: without any problems. Just don't hit
: the leaves or get a lot of it on the
: stems themselves. In pots, people
: are finding that pre emergents like
: 'Factor' don't seem to be too bad on
: sagos that have above ground stems,
: but cycads like coontie have all
: kinds of problems because they are
: underground. In pots, for long term
: growing, I'd go with 'Geodiscs'
: They look like round, treated peices
: of fabric and they really keep out
: the weeds when used correctly. I had
: some hildaes that I left in 1s and
: 3s too long in the back of the
: nursery, and after seeing them for
: the first time in a couple of years,
: they were weed free.
