I don't know anything about mushroom compost. I know there is not a problem with gypsum because I know people who have used it around their cycads when they plant them in clay soils. As long as it doesn't turn into mush and reduce drainage, or change the pH to something bad, I don't see a problem. You would have to experiment to see what it does to soil over time, maybe on an inexpensive cycad.
