If you have plenty of new leaves on your plant, it doesn't hurt to cut off old leaves. If you only had a few new leaves, like less than 10, then keeping some of the not so nice ones might help produce better energy. If you have 20 or more good leaves, then cutting a few lower ones won't hurt anything.
