: Anyone have any idea why Zamia's would
: start to cone and then stop halfway
: through the process? I've seen this
: happen with traumatized plants in
: the past, but this spring it's
: happening to a few specimens that
: had no obvious trauma, while
: adjacent plants (same species,
: sitting on either side) are coning
: without incident. Thanks.

It is still a delay of energy which would force new leaves or a cone. You don't have to have major trama to have this. Sometimes it is when you don't water it enough, or if the roots are doing what they should be doing. Sometimes an unexpected drop in temperatures in early spring will do that. This type of minor growth changes sometimes will just happen and you can't explain it. Sometimes cycads are just weird, now there is an intellegent answer huh?
