Had a great time at the MDI Marathon once again. Kudos to the organization, enthusiastic volunteers, awesome fans, weather and the beautiful course once again. I cancelled out on the Detroit Marathon which is held on the same day as MDI and I'm glad I ran MDI. 5th weekend in a row with a marathon and I rated MDI as the most fun and had my best time this fall. I was foolish to think about leaving the state of Maine for another marathon this past weekend when the best is in my own backyard.

Here, Here!! Well said Roger! Having done WA and then CA the two previous weeks I can say the same thing! It was a blast to meet many folks from away, run with many first-timers, etc. The weather cooperated and waited until we were mostly done before it got worse! (no repeat of '05). And the post-race party was a treat! Looking forward to 2010!! Maine-iac

I really missed being at MDI this year. It would have been great to run with you guys again. I was selected to represent my province at the National 10K Championships in Toronto last Saturday. Being a Marathon Maniac, I couldn't resist jumping into the Toronto Marathon on Sunday. Roger, I ran within a few seconds (3:11:19) of your time at MDI. Toronto was a well organized event but it sure didn't match the hospitality and camaraderie that I always experience at MDI. The people of Toronto generally dislike the marathon because street closures interfere with traffic. I certainly hope to be back at MDI in 2010. --Previous Message-- : Here, Here!! Well said Roger! I had a fantastic time at MDI this year. Glad the rain held off until I was comfortably tucked away at a fine dining establishment in Bar Harbor. It was my first marathon in nine years and I'm glad I choose it for my return. (October 19, 2009) The 8th edition of the Mount Desert Island Marathon was another smash success! Competitors from all across the US, Canada, and abroad came to test themselves over our magnificent, undulating terrain. Our stunning course and professional event management team have earned many distinctions over the years including our marathon being named 'Most Scenic in North America' by ESPN. For the latest incarnation participants were once again greeted with peaking fall foliage that helped paint our course in strikingly vivid yellows, oranges, and reds. Our award winning route passes through Acadia National Park and along seaside cliffs, down tranquil village main streets, through dense forests and past pristine lakes. In the end, David Herr from Canaan, Vermont, became a deserving six-time champion and Amanda Labelle from Dedham, Maine, earned her first win at the MDI Marathon. We also launched our ongoing Beyond the Finish Line: Charitable Fundraising Program this year. $1086.00 was raised toward our ultimate goal of $100,000.00, to support of many local charitable organizations. Winners of our 'free entry for life contest' who were the top contributors or fundraisers for each charity are as follows: Bette Clark - Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center Larry Seibert - Friends of Acadia Carmen Cordogan - Island Connections Joelle Nolan - Mt. Desert Nursing Association Matthew Kennedy - SPCA of Hancock County Our event also helped raise a combined total of over $11,000.00 in support of just two of the many other local charitable organizations we work with: Mt. Desert Nursery School and the MDI High School Music Boosters. Registration is now open for our 2010 edition to be held on Sunday, October 17th. Our starting field is limited.
