(January 2009) It has always been the intention of the MDI Marathon to create one of the best and most scenic destination marathons held in the USA. This broad reaching idea has been and continues to be realized with every successive edition with runners from every US state having attended the event. It was also part of the original plan to welcome runners from all over the world to compete with us on Mount Desert Island, this notion is one step closer to being realized by the release of the latest issue of Running Free Magazine, which is published in the United Kingdom. They have dedicated their full color, two page feature, 'Images of Inspiration' to our MDI Marathon. This exciting news is sure to help catapult our award winning event to even more recognition and will help bring more international runners to enjoy running in the state of Maine.

Wow, that's awesome. That is really what we've always wanted, to have a race recognized as a world class destination here on the Island
