We made a list and checked it twice and as they say, "tis the season" so we took beautiful granite plaques to over 40 island businesses and groups who all participated to make the 2006 Mount Desert Island Marathon such a huge success.... the quote of the day was: "you guys are a class act" the treat of the day was: a delicious brownie with gourmet coffee joke of the day was: glad they let you out! (by the MDPD) All in all it was a fun day filled with much holiday cheer!! the mdi marathon elves

This is such a fundamental part of any event - particularly one as large as the MDIMPBRL (MDI Marathon presented by Red Lobster - should that be the official abbreviation?), but many events/directors don't take that final step after closing down a race for the year. Giving a few t-shirts, Boston Marathon volunteer jackets, gloves to select park rangers, facilty managers, and maintenance crews have not only acknowledge key roles in the success of an event, they've paid incredible dividends when planning and executing future events (though I haven't received brownies and coffee!) totally agree Steve, when the last runner crosses the finish line the race has just started in many ways. 06 is almost put to bed and we are hard at work on improving, or trouble shooting every detail for 07 as there is always room for improvement even in the "MDIMPBRL"...laugh! .
