yes indeed that was a MDI Marathon medal...story goes like this, when I ran NYC for the first time back in 1980 I was so moved by watching Fred Lebow in action then blown away by his race. I told myself right then and there that someday I would start a marathon back in Maine. It took me until 2002 to finally get her done. so our medal, from one race director to another, is merely a small, but sincere gesture just to say thank you for inspiring me...we have been doing this for many years, delivering a MDI medal to Fred, and I hope the tradition always continues.(you all here me?)
another pretty cool thing for me is that the last time an American won NYC (1982-Alberto Salazar) I was in that race too and it was only a little bit faster than I managed on Sunday. So its fun to have been in the same event 27 years later when another US runner won!
finally huge congrats to all finishers and especially my friends and teammates Mary, (who is a marathon runner now!) Roger (who is steady as a rock and strong as steel) and anyone I might have missed. I secretly hoped I might be able to run some with Joanie but I never was on the same planet as her (who is?) she bolted from the gun.
anyway happy with time and place but I can do better and am not afraid to try.

: I was watching the NYC Marathon on the local
: NY NBC station and as they cut out for a
: break they had a shot of the Fred Lebow
: statue. I could swear that there was an MDI
: Marathon medal around his neck. I DVR'd it
: and paused it to see if I could get a better
: look, but it was blurry. Don't have HD yet!
: I know Gary was there and maybe he put it
: there? I've seen pictures of the statue
: with medals from other years.
