July 4 Around MDI Relay: ATTN TEAM CAPTAINS

Dear July 4th Relay Team Captains,

We are very excited to celebrate July 4th on foot with you all! This year we have more teams and more runners than in any other edition of this event!

With this fact in mind and because the final miles have been worrisome in regard to safety and heavy holiday traffic in the past, we have made a very important last minute change in the start and finish locations. The overall course is exactly the same as in past years. For our 2009 edition though we will start and finish approximately 3.67 miles further back towards the causeway on Route 3 from our previous starting location. The new start and finishing area is at Mainely Meat Barbecue, located at 369 Route 3, directly across the road from Pirates Cove Mini-Golf. You can't miss it.

We have made this decision for two reasons:

1. Safety. The road has a wide paved shoulder right up to this point on the course and we will be off the narrow dangerous spots early in the morning by moving the start back.

2. Better pre and post race amenities. We are starting and finishing at Mainely Meat, a great local Barbecue spot that has agreed to offer specials to runners.

The only thing that will change is that Leg 1 will lengthen to approximately 13.67 miles and Leg 8 will shorten to about 2.39 miles. Please plan accordingly and share this email with your team members who may be arriving separately.
