be patient Roger let the race come to you, somebody once said, "you can't win a marathon in the first 10k but you certainly can lose it"... be patient and save the chat for after you run under a finish line clock the begins with the number 2. History will never record what your spilts were, remember only the finish time counts

: Gary,
:
: Your probably right about starting slow at
: Sugarloaf and saving it for after the hill
: horrible hill at mile 9. I'll try to hold
: around a 6:45 pace after the mile 9 hill.
: Not so sure I can do it for very long. Maybe
: trying to do this will shut me up on the
: route. Most of the time I am running my
: mouth steady but I have a feeling I'll be
: sucking wind trying to hold pace. See you in
: about week. How about Joe Dunton? He must be
: gearing up for something about now.

: Roger,
:
: I think you can go under 3, but you HAVE to
: run easy early, no faster than 6:55-7:00
: until the top of the hill. This will put you
: exactly where you need to be to have a lot
: of run left in your legs and to be able to
: use the downhills to your advantage. In
: other words the same effort will translate
: to 6:45s and better and you'll break 3
: hours. Incidently I'm no expert on running
: or this course and will never claim to be
: but in my 13 appearances in the 25 total
: editions of Sugarloaf it has never taken me
: more than 3 hours to cover the ground,
: needless to say I'll be doing my best to
: make sure it doesn't happen in #14
