Posted by Larry on August 27, 2007, 7:48 pm, in reply to "Nedicus Northeast Harbor Road Race report, pacing" I am out of it now but coached pretty fast folks and ran reasonably well for a good while.. I can give you lots of road/track proven strategies for training and racing at about any distance. If you've only been at it for 8 months, you could probably drop 3-4 minutes off these times with 2 yrs of focused work. send me an email (pineallen@aol) and i'll give you what i've got. --Previous Message--
Ned...
: I had a great time at the 5-miler, despite
: going out too fast, as usual. Running in on
: Sargeant drive was beautiful and I really
: thought the weather pretty good for running.
: The humidity was broken by cooler sea
: breezes and some shade here and there. That
: said I'm sure that if Patrick and I had
: paced our selves better we could have run a
: better race. Going out too fast seems to me
: like swinging to early at a pitch or taking
: the wrong line through corner in a race car;
: having a smart strategy and sticking with it
: is just as important as being physically
: fit. So I'm resolving to really focus on
: pacing. I haven't really been running
: competitively for more than about eight
: months but I ought to be better at this. I
: have started to do track workouts every
: Monday (mostly 3 min. 800s to burn what 6
: min. pace feels like into my head. Does
: anyone have any ideas about what else I
: should do or ideas about running at the
: track? no advice is too basic because I'm
: really new to this.
: My brother Bob, Mary Ropp, and my
: friend Philippe all ran great races right
: out of the box with almost zero training or
: prep. Bob is moving in with me here in
: Portland and I'll see if I can get him to
: cut about 10 min. off his time by next year.
: I also want to congratulate everyone
: who ran the race with me, but I didn't
: really know so well as I live in Portland.
: Seeing so many people of differing
: situations and abilities all come out
: together and push their individual limits is
: a very humbling and moving experience for
: me. I look forward to expanding my own
: limits.
: And holy crap David Wilson is FAST! I
: want to take some road trips to his high
: school track meets andsupport him this year!
