Otter Creek is part of the Town of Mt. Desert. It is home to many seasonal and year round residents who all come out to cheer you on. You'll pass by the Burning Tree Restaurant as you enter the village which is famous for its gourmet fare and fresh seafood. The road during this mile rolls slightly and becomes a quaint residential area with no hard climbs or steep descents. The head wind you probably faced in the 'Tarn' now has switched and is often a tail wind thru the 'crik' (Otter Creek) You will be heading almost due South now with nothing but Atlantic Ocean in front of you after you pass this area. Relax and enjoy these easy miles. Only 21.2 Miles to go! Plan a trip to the Jordan Pond House famous for it's tea and popovers.(and other lunch selections) The tradition of afternoon tea at the Jordan Pond House dates back to the late 1800's. During that era a number of teahouses were established to cater to the growing number of sophisticated summer visitors. Today, Jordan Pond House continues the tradition of afternoon tea featuring our famous popovers and strawberry jam. This unique dining experience, served on the lawn with Jordan Pond and the 'Bubbles' as a backdrop shouldn't be missed. The Jordan Pond House is located right on the Acadia carriage road network so you can run or bike and eat a few extra popovers for your efforts! If you like locally brewed beer (show us a marathoner that doesn't!) go to one of the three out standing selections that call MDI there home. Maine Coast Brewing is located conveniently right across the street from our expo and bib number pick-up. Atlantic Brewing Company is located in Town Hill just off Route 102/198 and features Knox Rd Grill for some authentic BBQ and Bar Harbor Brewing (as mentioned in the mile 4-5 description) All three feature locally made beers and ales in truly unique flavors -- as we all know, one of the many rewards of marathoning is a nice and well earned cold beer! ( they also make Root Beer!) Most of their products are also available in restaurants all over MDI but plan a visit to the source for tours and tasting (check individual breweries for times) Read our other marathon course previews and tips:

Appearing periodically until race day, we're launching a new feature which will include a mile by mile preview of the Mount Desert Island Marathon route and strategies that will help participants successfully navigate the course.
We'll also provide ideas for things to see and do over marathon week and of course, insider tips on great places to eat, drink and have fun while visiting Mt. Desert Island.
