the Ivo VanDamme Memorial (BEL), taking another 0.16 seconds off. Micah Kogo (KEN)
ran the first sub-27 clocking for 2006 in the 10,000m with the #10 all-time clocking of
26:35.63. This marks five consecutive years with sub-27 minute performances. There
were sub-27's from 1993 thru 1999 and none for 2000 and 2001. There now have been
46 sub-27's all-time, by 23 different runners.

THIS WEEK
number of notable competitors. The women's gold medalist, Ayelech Worku (ETH)
ran 15:40.03. She lowered her PR to 14:41.23 four years later. She also was
the bronze medalist in the 5000m at the 1999 IAAF World Champs. Second was
Olivera Jevtic (SER) who was 4th at the 1998 IAAF World Half Marathon Champs.
Other notables include Aniko Kalovics (HUN) and Galina Bogomolova (RUS).
with a three second win over Orlando Pizzolatto (ITA), 2:10:54 to 2:10:57.
Herbert Steffny (GER) took the bronze meal in 2:11:30 with compatriot Ralf
Salzmann 4th in 2:11:41. Hugh Jones (ENG) was 5th in 2:11:49 in a field that
saw 19 finish under 2:20.
Marathon, held in Sapporo JPN. This race changed to a 30K in 1974 and changed
to a half marathon in 1987 (women from 1986). The race is now known as the Sapporo
Half Marathon and celebrated its 49th running this past July.
50 Years Ago- Adolf Gruber won the AUT marathon title for the 5th time with a time of 2:28:09.6.
He would go on to win a total of 12 titles (all consecutive years). No one else has
won more than ten national marathon titles.
