Re: Number weaned per year
Just curious. We're trying to educate our youth to get involved in the pork industry over the longhaul. What percent of those show pig buyers are going to make a profit on their $ 300 pigs? Or, what happens to the pigs you can't merchandise? I realize I'm old, getting senile, and over the hill - - BUT, I am satisfied with my litters of 12, 14, and 13 Polands I weaned Wednesday - - AND, a number of different families will get pigs at market price out of them and have an honest chance in real world economics. The question becomes are we just trying to teach them to win at any cost, or for the parents to relive their youth, or actually prepare our kids for the future? Why can't we have productive pigs that perform equally well in the show ring - - OR is that too difficult? I never considered it a problem.
