Re: Breeder and Boar stud input desired
Jack, I will document this. When I go to a show like NBS, STC, WPX, Belton, TX, State Fairs Etc; while I'm shopping for breeding stock, I will ask the Breeder if the animals I'm inquiring about were fed Paylean. In many cases I'll hear "well just a little for a little while" or "ya", "you gotta feed it if your gonna compete", or "everybody else does it". I do appreciate the breeders honesty and generally I purchase the animals anyway. Some go through our Isolation, fed sow feed and continue to develop & breed satisfactorily, some melt & go to pieces and never contribute. I do believe Show Boars fed Paylean have reduced fertility even if they collect normally & semen volume/motility seems fine. Before I sign off, I do have an observation/question. Why do most Boars at these shows walk around like Barrows? Haven't seen a good Chompin, fightn boar for awhile in a show ring, If I do I'll probably own him.
