Greetings from Austin MN- the National Barrow Show! This is quite easily my husband and I's favorite show of the season. There is just so much history associated with this show, and it is much more laid back- not nearly as much stress! The only thing- and this is going to sound weird- I usually look forward to the cool, fall like weather when we get here. Today was in the 80's- even warmer than at home! Of course, with the cool summer we had, I guess it makes sense that it would be warm here in September!
From what I can tell, the CPS/Berkshire barn is full to bursting. It seems like there are more head here than last year. The junior barrow show was today, and they seemed to also have more than last year. Tomorrow is the open barrow show- which I will be showing in- with a Berkshire barrow, and then the truckloads, which I get a kick out of watching. I guess that is because you dont see groups of 6 hogs shown by one exhibitor that often anymore. I helped show a truckload one year- it is not easy to keep 6 pigs in a line, all looking the same! More power to them.
I will post some updates about who won the CPS/Berkshire barrows tomorrow, and then- what I am sure will be an exciting open breeding stock show on Tuesday! This is always a high quality event, so I cant wait until Tuesday!
Erin
