Greetings from Western Illinois! I have not posted for awhile, as was at my home county fair, but this was interesting.
When the STC was held in Lebanon IN, back before there was a TEAM PUREBRED- just a junior show with three breeds, it was held in the middle of July. We would come home from the STC and go d irectly to the HOI fair in Peoria. I think that no matter when you hold this event in the middle part of the summer, you are going to run into county fairs, as we already do having it in June. We of course cannot have it only a scant week after Expo, that is just way too close.
As far as combining the two junior shows in one location- yes, it did work at the SW conference, but there is a big difference between an open and a junior show. Jack is correct, there are too many activities to try to get together. We would try to have them separate, but what would we do if we had kids with breeds from both, who wanted to participate in both skillathons, or judging? What if our skillathon was going on at the same time as the Yorkshire gilt show? I think that it is a good thing to have our own identity. TEAM PUREBRED is great just the way it is, and keeps getting better. I am just not a hundred percent sure that you could combine to organizations in one show, and not have some amount of confusion. Yes, we combine for WPE, but this event does not have nearly as many activities involved. The reason we go to Springfield, is because it is centrally located. you will never find one location that suits everyone.
Just some thoughts.
See everyone at the Illinois State fair.
Erin
