Greg- I understand your concern as well, and I think that no one will argue when you say that a positive hog tends to look better. However, I feel, and obviously others do as well, that this move is excellent for the longevity of the breed. Not too long ago we had this discussion and I was told that this move wouldn't happen b/c of the lack of negative genetics. I think when you look around, as we have been, you will see that there are several negative or carrier boars available that can sire highly-competitive pigs for the kids-which is where a great deal of us focus our business. We are definitely late to respond in the way that all of the other breeds have and I think to have put it off any longer would have been worse for our breed than not-if for nothing else than the pr appearance of caring. I initially came from white hogs and really look for dark hogs with white characteristics-which they produce without being positive. It's doable and I think it's just necessary that we roll with it and try to be more progressive in our breeding programs.
