After reading all of these posts, I just had to respond. I was at the STC and did infact see this boar in the show and then asked to see him out of the pen. Is he a great one, in my opinion, no, was he the best that was at that particular show, that particular day, probably so. I'm not a pig breeder, I've shown pigs for 20 plus years and am new to the CPS breeds, but what gets me is the people responding to this boar and their positives and negatives. Looking at the big picture here, wouldn't the poland breeders be wanting to improve their breed, so that they are more competitive at big time shows? I'm from Indiana and have attended the Indiana State fair for years and have never seen a poland make the spot light sale. If I were breeding polands, that would be my goal, to breed a poland gilt or barrow to be competitive enough to compete with the yorks, hamps, durocs and crosses. Isn't that the goal that all you poland breeders should be worried about, making competitive poland show pigs, not complaining about one particular boar? Maybe I have my priorities in a different place then some of the responders on here, but I think some people need to evaluate their breeding choices and pick whats going to work best for their sows and what's going to make competitive show pigs.
