Jimmy's comment to me after the sale was, and I quote, "I'll have to go back to the farm and see if I have another boar whose sheath drags in the mud, LOL!" I make 'em the way people want 'em. Personally, I think the boar will sire some useful pigs as he is intensely linebred. My suggestion: breed him to long, tall, and very flexible sows. By the way, he wasn't the soundest boar in the show. Just one of the sound ones. There were several.
I also find it very interesting to read the comments about the quality of judging we witnessed. Until YOU have been in the ring yourself, I suggest your comments lack total validity as ringside seats DO NOT give you the best vantage point for evaluation. And, tell me what judge isn't human and places some pigs wrongly? The true judgement of an animal is shown on sale day and 1 year later when their progeny completes the next generation's cycle.
Those of you who are using Jimmy's boar sparingly will probably prove to be the wisest, IMHO. If I am any judge of a breeding boar, there was one that sold pretty cheap that I feel will be heard from next year. I'll let you know which one I have in mind when that happens, and I'm betting it will!
