Greetings on this WINDY day in Western Illinois!!
I have not posted for a while, but felt that this discussion merited a thought or two.
My husband and I have just begun to advertise in the magazine, having placed two ads so far, and currently going to place one in this upcoming. Whether we like it or not, advertising is a key to being able to keep things going, both breed magazines, and showpig sales. We see it as a "how will people know about us if we dont advertise?" kind of thing. I dont think that CPS is trying to tell all of us to put in a full page, full color ad in every magazine. Even smaller ads help. Like one person said in an earlier post, the herdsire issue did used to be a big deal. I think that they would just like to see it a bigger deal again.
Yes, times are not the greatest right now. I think though that we will get through them, if we keep on keeping on. When we talk about having pride in the breeds, we do so because too many people who raise the "bigger" breeds continue to look at us and say things like "minor breeds", or "that hog is good for a Poland" Non of us like to hear that. That is where the pride comes in. we raise Berks, Chesters, Polands and Spots because we love them, and Darn It!! we are proud of them!!!!
See everyone at Expo!!! Hope to have the crops in by then!!!!
Erin
