Tayen was not expecting it, anticipating the step back to be followed by a circle, until she saw Cortana's jaws coming at her. Tayen rounded up a bit of courage and rose herself on hind paws as Cortana thrust herself forward, standing slightly over her so that the wolf's line of aim came more toward where her ribcage narrowed. She dove her own muzzle downwards like a bird pecking at a worm, attempting to snatch Cortana's face from the top and get a grip, hopefully before Cortana decided to settle for a grip in her own exposed area, and have another useful weapon in her jaws.
