Cortana straightened herself out, standing tall and no longer smirking, leering, or sneering. There was no need for any of that any more, not with what Tayen just said. The battle was over and ended on her favor. The other wolf had given up, at least for the time being. The white and pink wolfess shook out her coat before responding in any way.
"My name is Cortana, and I pray you heal well before you return," she spoke, voice heard easily above the roaring flames. Something about Tayen let the wolfess know that she would not want to reside here with Cortana as alpha, not now at least.
The fire burning around the wolf was little concern. The femora had traveled through many brushfires on her way to this terrain and would know just how to deal with it. For now, she was safe in the soppy circle that prevented the fire from creeping in on her. She would use the close to five minutes she had to regain her thoughts and prepare her escape from the burning ring.
Cortana tilted her head back letting out a long silvery howl that mixed with the sound of the roaring flames, but any creature in the terra would now know the new leader. Her eyes were fixed open, watching the other wolf. Cortana could not completely trust her yet, knowing the forfeit could very well be a feint. When her song was done, she narrowed her eyes at Tayen, staring expectedly. Would she leave?
