She remained relaxed, even as Cortana awoke.

She had used spells like fire breath and bush fire so many times, they didn't build up a full strain as they would have when she first learned them. The spells were simple ones that she knew how to make more complex, if in convenient circumstances. Again, the smell of venom came to her nose, and Tayen could tell what was coming next. Again, she would be sacrificial, but this could possible harm Cortana more than it would harm her.
Tayen took a deep breath, and once again exhaled flames, this time aiming them at the poison on Cortana's claws. It would not burn the venom of the claws, but possible cause the fumes to become stronger as they reacted with the flames. She lowered her head again, to avoid whatever smog might waft her way if the attack hit, but she knew if too much was inhaled in the long-run, it might cause poison without even being wounded. She was unsure if Cortana saw her attack coming or the intention, but she was prepared to play a waiting game.
