It was the single thing that made it obvious that the wolf was not here for a friendly visit. Her silver eyes narrowed slightly, and it sunk in that Tayen was definately in for a fight. The only thing that brought unsureness was that her last fight had been many months ago with an aqua dragon; much different then fighting a wolf, especially on land in a completely different season. Tayen thrusted these thoughts away. There was little reason to get insecure; if she doubted herself, there was no way she could win, was there?
Her thick earlobes rose slightly as the wolf begun to speak. The first words she said caused the hairs on Tayen's back to prickle, and her expression to darken slightly. Still, she remained wordless, knowing that the wolf had more to say than this. Her silver eyes didn't move from the white wolf even as her peripheral vision caught the egg moving. It was preparing to hatch already? Tayen wished it would hurry up so she could see the dragon inside, but she knew she needed to focus at the moment, and stood listening to Cortana.
It was the next things she said the caused Tayen to snort, cough, and try her very best to keep a straight face. She practicedly kept her expression stable after the short outburst, staring at the wolf in what seemed to be a new interest. How odd that she said almost the exact words Surreal had said long ago? And what did Tayen thing about it? There was no way on earth she would step down, and that was about it. It took a huge, huge mistake to get Tayen to learn against doing something twice. She had made that mistake with Surreal, and she would not make it a second time with Cortana.
"Thanks, but no thanks," she said evenly. It had been a sincere gesture, but Tayen knew that if anyone dethroned her, it would have to be honorably. "I will fight you for these lands." Her gaze remained completely even and unattached. If the wolf lost, it would be her choice if she staid in the packs or not as a member under Tayen. If she won... Tayen didn't like to think about that.
