When so many venues are either shutting their doors or dropping their music licences we (The Westcoast + Street Voice Webzine) decided that the best way forward was to put on gigs for just £1 entry in these hard times. This was christened 'Gig 4 A Quid'.
The we had this idea which was to put on mixed genre gigs with decent up and coming bands. Too many venues/promoters refuse to go this way as the idea of mixing bands uo from different genres is too drastic. It works at festivals so why not gigs?
Despite the poor turn out last night we still reckon this is a viable idea and will contunue to support not just the larger bands but also the up and coming bands too! Without the up and coming bands being given a chance will see many of the smaller disappear and the general state music scene becoming a farce.
Music is great and we want to see people come out, see some good quality bands and have a bloody good time.
Anyway on to the gig.
First up were Kingskin from Dover. After hearing their debut album I really wanted to do a show with these guys and last night confirmed to me why these guys should be much bigger than they are. Their sound incorpoarates Rock, Grunge and a bit of Funk thrown in and it's just a pleasurable listening experience. If more bands put in as much effort as these guys do then maybe the music scene might be a bit more healthier. At least three people came up to me last night and were suprised Kingskin aren't signed. We are too! Kingskin really do have to be checked out.

Next band up are a young up and coming female fronted Pop-Rock band called Controller. I knew Jenna and a couple of other bands members from the local university but never checked them out until a campus director gave me their debut CD. I was hooked. Despite the bass being a little too loud Controller gave a good account of themselves. Jenna Donnelly has a great voice and her band are really tight musicians and between them they have something good going. A band to look out.

Despite being stuck on almost every motoryway between Cardiff and Margate Dirty Revolution finally arrived at the venue. They're an up and coming female fronted Ska/Dub and have been getting rave reviews everywhere they play. I loved Dirty Revolution from the moment I heard them and last night they showed they play a quality set. Front person Reb has a great stage prescence and the band are tight and spot on musicans. After seeing Dirty Revolution last night I can safely say they're one of my favourite bands doing the rounds.

So there you have it. A good night for the people who came out to support the concept of Gig 4 A Quid and the bands themselves.
The next gig is on Friday 27th February with Syren, Shilling Whores, The Starfighters and the Mop Collective. £1 entry!
