I am a Conley living in Alton Illinois (Just North of St. Louis on the Mississippi) During the Civil War Alton had an infamous CW Confederate POW camp. Approx. 5000 died here and there is a National Cemetary just North of Alton where many were buried in a mass grave. There's a monument with approx. 2000 names on it.... one is a Conley and thought it might help someone out there with their ancestry....His name is
Richard Conley, Company A/ 2nd Arkansas. My grandparents and great grandparents are from Southern Illinois around the Cave-in-Rock area. Hope this helps someone.
