Help/Still learning Posted by Matt, South Texas on September 26, 2009, 2:31 pm 67.11.214.X My daughter is showing a steer for the first time this year.I have no clue what to do with an issue that happens at every show. She has an Angus about 920lbs. when the steer is in the barn at home he looks great. As soon as we get him to a show he stops eating and drinking and his ribs start showing. he looks sunkin in on both sides. if anyone has some sugestions I would be greatfull.  Post a Response

Re: Help/Still learning Posted by Jake on September 26, 2009, 8:17 pm, in reply to "Help/Still learning" 208.126.161.X The night before a show we just give ours half feed and at around 10oclock we close the gate so they cant get any water then once you get him to the show get him weighed go tie him up and let him lay down for about 3 to 4 hours but don't give him any feed or water yet maybe just a slab of grass then once he is relaxed give him just a little drink of water then put the feed and grass in front of him and let him eat all he wants and he should get a pretty good belly on him the right before you go into the ring let him drink as much as he wants...This should work  Post a Response

Some will add kool aid to the water also. You can also try giving him some "Filler" upon arrival and the next morning at the show to keep his stomach expanded. Good luck!  Post a Response
