Cool room feeding Posted by jjack-NE on June 29, 2009, 4:17 pm 209.34.199.X We are having an issue with the 2 steers we keep in our cool room. Neither eats well when they are in the cooler. It's not a huge issue on the one (he's already at or near his finish weight) but the better of the two needs a couple hundred pounds between now on the end of August to be at his prime when he gets to our state fair. We started putting them in the cooler 10 days ago and we keep it at 65-69 degrees. They get rinsed each morning and then put in the cooler between 6-7:00 am. They come out after dark at about 10:00 pm and are rinsed a second time. The cool room has been pitch dark although I added a light yesterday after being told that may help them stay interested in their feed. I'm looking for any advice you'd like to share.  Post a Response

Ours r eating rite a 28 pounda a piece per day we only give them 8 pounds a piece in tha cooler and we give them the other 20 at nite but we also put them in from 6 to 7 and then we also turn it pitch black until around 11:30 we feed them, turn the lights on, go eat dinner and we come back around 12:30 and there tub is licked clean and then when we come back from eating dinner we make it pitch black again. We take them out a 8 at nite and from my opinion i dont think its necessary to rinse them at nite we just put a light mist on them and wet there belly let them get to that feed asap at night  Post a Response
