Posted by ohio on May 8, 2008, 10:54 am, in reply to "Re: worst calving bull?" 74.219.149.67 I've had calves like that out of Heatwave, Heatseeker, All About You, Jazz, Carnac, Ground Zero, Strictly Business, Double Vision, off the top of my head. I've also had calves by each of these bulls that were 75 pounds that a heifer could have had. Breed any cow to a club calf bull and you are taking your chances with the unpredictable nature of these genetics. Do all that you can to maximize your chances, keep a close watch at calving time, and hope and pray for the best, or take a herd of commercial Angus, breed them calving ease Angus, Galloway, Lowline, or the like, and sleep easy at night. It's very difficult to find the middle ground.  Post a Response

Plus the differences in management styles. (I keep everything VERY well fed!!) For my heifers, I play it on the safe side, and even with my cows, I don't use those "cow killin', anything for the purple" bulls. But that is me....to each their own!  Post a Response

It's tougher to get to the middle ground than the average person realizes. I wish there was a bull that made them stout, hairy, and sellable without a calving issue, but it will never happen. Too many variables in each operation. I'm just afraid that someone will throw out a bull name like Dr. Who, or Money Man, or Hardcore, or Paleface and that people will assume that they will have a problem free calving season. Bulls like this are closer to the middle ground we seek, but will still surprise you at least a time or two each year.  Post a Response
