More Pig Questions Posted by Janey on April 28, 2008, 8:45 am 24.131.66.238 Regarding show pigs........do most people use an automatic feeder and allow pigs to have access to food all day long or do you feed twice a day, once a day, sixteen times a day or what? Any help would be appreciated. Also do most people use the nipple waterers or just water from a bucket...... And, what is considered the best show pig feed? Thanks  Post a Response

If you got a couple pigs in one pen, you may even want to consider the nipple waterers that hook right up to your garden hose. Feeding, keep feed in front of them all the time until about the 190-210 range, then twice a day (depending on what they need...). Feed, you can't beat showtec feed! It is expensive, but it's well worth the cost in my book!  Post a Response

Re: More Pig Questions Posted by cyfan on April 29, 2008, 2:34 am, in reply to "Re: More Pig Questions" 209.33.108.252 as for the feeding...showtec or kalmbach seems to be the answer. as for feeding, feeding them to about 175-200 on full feed is ok if they are small, it all depends on how big, what's their optimum weight. it's also all about keeping them fresh enough. as for a waterer.. nipple waterers are not the answer if you ask me. use the cup waterers from farmtek. they bolt right onto the fence and keep from making quite a mess. it's very easy to hook up several on a garden hose. and finally don't forget showtec makes a grind and feed that can help save feed costs. still keeps the showtec feed but can help the bottom line if it's really a prob. we still feed the pellets.  Post a Response

THEY HAVE A ADDITIVE IN IT THAT PIGS JUST LOVE. WE HAVE FED IT FOR YEARS, COST ABOUT $13 WE USE A FEEDER UNTIL THEY HIT 100 POUNDS OR SO, GOOD LUCK  Post a Response

Have them on a sel ffeeder until they are 120 lbs and then decide from there need more weight leave them on the automatic feeder, if not start feeding them 2 times a day.
