Clipping/Losing Hair Posted by Cali BOy on April 20, 2008, 6:36 pm 207.200.116.203 I have a shorthorn steer really good and he is begining to lose hair from his neck back. First just the neck but the last two days its been past his front shoulders. His back end still has alot of hair which of course I want to keep but should I just shave him and keep it even? Any suggestions helpful the fair isn't till late august september  Post a Response

Re: Clipping/Losing Hair Posted by Tony, OH on April 21, 2008, 9:51 am, in reply to "Clipping/Losing Hair" 140.228.115.236 Ussually its normal this time of year to have your animals start losing hair. if your show season is over its a good idea to start shucking their hair that way they grow it back by your fair if you do it now then you should be ok our fair isnt until late august either. if you have a cooler room get them in it if not start putting them in front of a fan(mister fan pref.)this will help jumpstart the hair growing process. hope this helps.  Post a Response

Is there any other material thats better or cheaper than shavings and do you have any suggestions on a conditioner kleen sheen rag oil or a mixture you recomend  Post a Response

Re: Clipping/Losing Hair Posted by Tony, OH on April 23, 2008, 11:53 pm, in reply to "Re: Clipping/Losing Hair" 140.228.115.236 we ussually use malch in our cool room. if your pen surrounded by a tarp is keeping your animals cool then i guess it works for you ive known people that have just tied them up in a dark part of their barn too and that has worked well for them. teh rag oil will help prevent some dandruff and the hair. a good hair treatment is revive if you use it right it will keep the hair shiny and will provide as a good conditioner. hope this helps.  Post a Response

It makes the calf hold heat and can actually make it hotter which will not hlep you grow hair. We use conditioner (yes just regular human conditioner Suave= 99 cents) it doesn't hold the heat like revive but produces the same results  Post a Response
