naval infection

I have a month old calf with naval infection. The infection got into the back left leg, swollen from the hoof to the hock. My vet has me treating the calf with 10 units of a mix of ampicillun and dexasone every other day for 5 days. My question is will the calf have a leg problem for its life or is there something else that works for treating it. Thank You for your help.
