Posted by sykoscout This places breaks more labor laws than I can count. I finally had enough of it, and contacted the Ontario Ministry of Labor. They advised me that I was correct in my claims that Caseys was in violation of the Employment Standards Act (ESA), and that I should try to talk to my employer about it before pursuing legal action. So, I wrote a letter. A very polite and professional letter detailing the violations, and asking for a solution. Caseys determined that the best solution was to immediately terminate my employment with no notice and refused to provide a reason. They said that since I had not yet worked there for three consecutive months, they did not have to provide notice, neither did they require a reason to fire me. This much is true. However: "The ESA makes it illegal for the employer to fire or in any way discipline an employee who follows the ESA or who tries to ensure that his or her rights under the ESA are being protected." Given that I was fired less than a week after submitting my letter, I don't think it will be hard to prove why I was fired. Why am I writing this? Well, for one thing, I'm mad as hell. Secondly, I'd be very happy if this place went out of business, so the greedy, selfish, exploitative owners actually had to work for a day or two so they might get an inkling of what it's like to live below the ####ing poverty line while your fat cat boss sits around doing nothing all day but counting his profits and lamenting that despite the millions he makes, he can still only afford to pay you $6.25/hr. Cocksuckers.

I always knew they were a bunch of assholes, but I never thought it would go this far.
