Well despite 3 no shows, a refuser and an injured player the Old Pies turned in a fantastic performance thanks to Clanfield's sporting gesture of lending us 4 players on the night.
Previously unbeaten Clanfield Ressies pre-season had the lion's share of possession throughout but failed to break down the Old Pies stubborn and organized resistance.
Having said that the Pies had spells of their own of simple short passing that embarassed their much younger and fitter opponents.
Debutant Carl Stevens pulled the strings from the off for the Pies in midfield and will prove to be a fulcrum for the team on this showing.
Jason Guy worked tirelessly upfront with Dougal hobbling alongside him from the off.
Apart from a couple of smart saves from Greeney helping out the Pies as custodian in the first-half, Clanfield failed to trouble the Pies backline.
The second-half saw the Pies boss proceedings for the early part and they shocked Clanfield by taking the lead with a smart strike from Jase for his efforts on the night.
Clanfield still with the lion's share of possession were finding chances to be at a premium and it was a travesty when a mix up 5 minutes from time ended in an OG from one of their borrowed players, and spoiled what would have been a perfect performance from the Pies in the
circumstances.
Fabio has some serious sorting out to do before next weeks Sports Cup me thinks!!
