B96 started leaning back toward Mainstream CHR in 2010 or so. Went full blown by 2013. They always kept some pop and rock in the mix. Now they have cheap unmemorable electronic pop (Maroon 5, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Zedd, Selena Gomez, etc) and mumble rap (Drake, Post Malone, etc) They get to share this with WKSC, WGCI, Power 92 and The Mix. |
You can count memorable hits on 1 hand. Last yearís most memorable hits still get heavy rotation.
It used to be a mix of the Pop, Hip-Hop, small amount of Dance and Alternative that made up Top-40. Now thereís a huge lacking in content memorable enough for regular rotation.
Even though a lot of the songs are in the same boat, this is why Alternative and Hot AC formats seem to be growing lately. Alternative has itís own music and golds to fall back on, Hot AC has some of itís own, and golds to fall back on. Weíve been here before.
If any station should be working with B96ís Early-Mid 90s sound, itís 104.3 but they have not arrived there yet.
And yes they did cut back on the Street Mixes.
