That's one of the problems we always talk about with all these translators. |
95 WILL ROCK now has 2 translators. The first one is actually on The "Sears" Tower. It is directional due south and basically shoots south down the Dan Ryan hitting all the way down to the close in south/sw burbs. Here in the Oak Lawn/Evergreen Park/Alsip areas, I get this one pretty well.
They also have a construction permit for Bolingbrook on 95.1. This is the one that is probably causing you problems near the O' Hare area.
It says Bolingbrook, but, it isn't anywhere near Bolingbrook. This translator is located just north of Fullerton/Grand Ave. and Harlem on the border of Chicago and Elmwood Park.
This one also sends most of it signal to the south and southwest, with very little of it going northwest to the O'Hare area(on the map), but enough to overlap with the main signal coming from Kenosha.
So thats why you're getting the crappy signal where you're at.
To sum it up, you're getting the same station, hitting you on two different signals, which are not synced.
The translator on Harlem Ave. was just approved in the middle of November. So it was probably just turned on recently.
Again, this is the problem with translators, this one on 95.1 shows no signal reaching O'Hare at all, on the map, but, real world conditions don't really give a flying(u know what) about maps...lol
Here are some links to the 2 translators for 95.1 in the Chicago area and the real station coming from Kenosha, it will prob make more sense than my babbling
EDIT: I was typing all this while I'm working on something else(work lol) so if the links don't take you right to the map just scroll down the page to "view coverage map" and they'll pop up, hope this helps...
This is the new translator:
Radio-Locator 95.1 Bolingbrook
This is for the downtown translator:
Radio-Locator 95.1 Sears Tower
Finally, here is the map for the main coverage for the real 95.1 in Kenosha:
