If I'm not mistaken, Mancow signed either a 4 or 5 year contract back in 2015. This would keep him locked in(whether that be on air or riding the contract out off the air) for at least another year or two. There are other things going on with Mancow, the Cumulus bankruptcy, will they keep The Loop and WKQX? Would iHeart want to hire a guy like Mancow on a new station when he is suing his current boss? Do they really need another headache right now? Seems they have enough already. |
As for going alternative, we've got 101.1 and 93.1 already. 95.5 is one of two country stations in Chicago, going alternative would make them the 3rd station in the format, in Chicago. In other words a step backwards from where they are now.
If they really wanted ALT here, I think they would have jumped on it by now. In the same regard, if Entercom thought iHeart was seriously considering ALT here, they probably would have "ALTed" XRT already.
If 95.5 were to become an "ALT" or "alternative" to anything, it would be an "alternative" to one of their other Chicago stations, NOT an Alternative rock station.
Keep in mind what is the real bottom line here, cluster sales!! Another poster here, lets just say he has a "Z" in his name, has pointed out numerous times that iHeart needs a station they can either cross sell with 93.9/103/5, or cross sell/flank/protect V and GCI with. V103 is the most important, highest rated, highest billing station they have here. iHeart will do anything to protect it against a threat. Whether you agree with him or not, he's spot on about this!
That is the bottom line plain and simple! We may not like this theory or even think it is the best way to run radio stations, it doesn't change the fact that is reality in radio.
I think we have to watch 95.5 closely from the time the Christmas music ends on 93.9 thru the first month of the new year. If something is in the works at 95.5 right now, thats when we will most likely find out.
There are some other things to talk about with this whole situation, but, as is not uncommon with me, I've babbled on way to long already...
