As far as input, usually internet. Sometimes the STL from the studio that goes to the AM translator.
I know of some AM stations that literally have an FM tuner plugged into the AM transmitter just rebroadcasting the translator. Not the other way around. WPJX is one of these. Relays 92.5 which is fed by a low bitrate internet feed. When there is DX, you can hear DeKalb on the AM side. FM static if the translator is off the air.
WZTI (1290) in Milwaukee also does this
