When B96 was still full blown Rhythmic CHR in most of the 2000s (2002 it leaned Mainstream), it was the same situation except B96's direct competition was WKSC rather than WGCI.
There was a period of time, around 2003 when Hip-Hop started to dominate CHR to an extent it had not since it regained prominence in the late 90s. In Green Bay, the heritage CHR station, WIXX didn't want to drive away their older listeners by playing too much of it, so they shifted their sister station (Magic 99.7) to Rhythmic CHR (Wild 99.7). That took place in the Spring of 2002. They played all of the Hip-Hop and Dance hits that charted on CHR on Wild 99.7 and leaned WIXX heavily toward Modern AC.
In Early 2003, Entercom took that same approach in Milwaukee between WXSS and WMYX. They leaned WXSS almost entirely toward Hip-Hop and added the Rock acts from CHR (Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Trapt, Evanescence, etc) to WMYX. In Green Bay, that approach continued for about 4 years. In Milwaukee, it backfired after less than a year but WXSS has leaned Rhythmic ever since.
