For those not familiar with WABC, is was, much like "The Big 89" WLS, a top 40 powerhouse until the 80's. It flipped to talk sooner than WLS to talk.
WLS flipped to talk in 1989.
Much like WLS today, WABC is now in the ratings basement and runs mostly syndicated fare along with paid programs on the weekends.
This was the last Cumulus station in market #1 after they sold and swapped their last FM's in New York last month.
94.7 WNSH was swapped to Entercom for stations in Indianapolis and 95.5 WPLJ was sold to EMF, they flipped to K-Love last month.
I know this is about a New York station and this is Chicago, it is relevant however. The new owner is NOT a radio station owner, this is his first and he wants to buy more. He does host a show on a rival station but, his investments include things like grocery stores and real estate, not media.
If you read this board often, you already know that Z, WYTZ has written quite a few times that Cumulus will likely swap or sell its Chicago cluster. I agree with him.
So what do you think, does this owner have his eye on Chicago?
