There are no local bands that break on FM radio. There are no "chances" taken. All programming is out of a corporate office or if local, it is off of a safe list researched to death.
There is no creativity. Younger jocks and older ones not wanting to be blacklisted will take issue with me. The lack of creativity is because of perceived PPM rules and no talk is higher ratings. It is also partly due to technology as people can go elsewhere. Other part of it is high debt load and less overhead available to spend on sounding good. Lets not forget consolidation, NAFTA and technology replacing live jocks.
It is a downward spiral as can seen on the pricetag and value for stations like 97.9, 99.9, 92.5 etc...
If programmers can get people to visit one of their other 4 stations on the dial, it is a win because the ad dollars are staying at home. It is a loss for listeners.
