WXRT-STR has been showing up in the ratings the last few months. PPM will never know which app was used to listen to that stream. If WXRT-STR falls out of the ratings in a few months, the decision to leave TuneIn will be the reason.
Yes, it's true that Entercom will know an exact number of streams over a month and be able to go to advertisers with that information which MAY be better than going to the advertiser with Nielsen rating data. But the ratings info is still a good gauge of just how much reach the stream had locally.
Here's an example: I use an old iPhone connected to a speaker/dock as my clock radio. I USED to listen to WXRT, WSCR, WBBM, etc. on the Radio.com app, but the phone is old and cannot be upgraded. The Radio.Com app no longer supports that operating system, but the TuneIn app still supports it. Entercom is basically telling me I need to spend $300 if I want to listen to their radio streams. That is a dumb way to do business.
