The AM drive show might be African American themed, but it is not Urban. Big difference. V103 and WGCI differ from oldies or CHR stations as they cater to an Urban audience. The show is palatable to people regardless of race or skin color. The issue is, it is not relatable to CHICAGO people. Chicago especially in the 90s was a rare market unlike NYC, LA or the US all together.
Whites will listen and enjoy African American themed programming. That includes music, jocks and production. This was a generational shift in the mid 90s. Yes, the Hip Hop that crossed over to CHR from Urban in the 90s was indeed based in the African American culture before it went mainstream.
