If you listen often to WRME often you've probably heard a spot for "Evergreen Door and Windows", this is a company that is local to me and has been around for a long time. They have never done radio before, they started working with WRME over a year ago with 60 second spots in the morning. They now are doing 60's, 30's and 10/15 second sponserships of news and music segments.
I know a tech that works for Evergreen and he said that it is working well for them. The owners decided to give advertising a shot on 87.7 because they like the station and it has worked well for them, thats why they stepped up their amount of advertising. They said they will continue to advertise.
True, they do have the dental and some medical type ads, but, it is nothing like the horrible lawyer, ambulance chasing and drug spots that are so common on TV today.
I know they are not pulling in the $$$ that the big stations are, but, with their setup and format they are covering their overhead and making a little profit on it. I'm happy for them.
On the WLS FM subject, I agree with those that said the station sounds good musically, I am one of those people that likes the mix of different types of music on the radio, I like going from G&R to Prince, before radio was so "segregated". I do miss the jingles, but, time moves on. They do need to tighten up the segues tho, a few times the music plays right over the station ID's making them hard to understand. The TOH needs to be worked on also, like Z said.
I do have to give credit to Wade tho, he's working on it and I think he'll get things worked out soon.
As much as I was nostalgic about The Loop, much of it was exactly that, nostalgia, it was not The Loop of years ago. I hope they are not planning on bringing it to 94.7.
The new logo seems to fit more with sound of the station now. I will always like the classic WLS logo and jingles, but, I'm probably about the youngest person that does, and I ain't all that young anymore, so I get the direction they're moving.
